Join TransiT as a Research Partner: Call for Expressions of Interest
We are seeking to identify a small number of highly experience research teams to support TransiT in achieving our ambition to develop digital models and tools for transport decarbonisation.
Partners should have a broad understanding of transport, with a degree of specialisation in specific transport modes or digital capabilities. They must also be based in an organisation eligible for UKRI funding as the project may also include an opportunity to apply for ‘flexible funding’ between £500k-£1m at 80% Full Economic Cost (TBC).

Eligibility criteria
To be eligible, partners must:
- Evidence experience in the use of digital technologies for transport infrastructure and services;
- Be based at an organisation eligible for UKRI funding and eligible to be named as a co-investigator on an ESPRC bid;
- Demonstrate a strong track record in leading large-scale interdisciplinary research projects, typically over 3 years duration exceeding £2m;
- Have capacity to leverage support from industrial stakeholder and national research assets;
- Demonstrate a track record of impact in the transport domain;
- Demonstrate research impact, particularly in relation to policy advice;
- Evidence experience of working on multi-modal transport solutions
- Evidence extensive experience in the use of digital technologies for transport infrastructure and services;
- (DESIRABLE) Demonstrate a track record of leading or supporting existing ESPRC investments in transport decarbonisation

Additional requirements
Prospective partners must also:
- Be able to attend a proposal development workshop in Edinburgh on 27-28 November 2023;
- Provide an institutional costing by 6 December 2023;
- Be available for proposal development and drafting during December 2023 and early January 2024;

- Deadline for EOI – Monday 20 November 2023
- Decisions by – Tuesday 21 November 2023
- Deadline for full proposal submission – Tuesday 30 January 2024
- Project start date – estimated May 2024 (for 5 years)
Funding and budget information
- The maximum budget for each research partner is likely to be between £500k-£1m;
- Funding is provided at 80% FEC (Full Economic Cost);
- Project duration – up to 5 years;
- Estimated start date – May 2024;
