Our Challenge Led Demonstrators are supported by five interconnected research Work Packages focused on critical cross-cutting themes including cybersecurity, the economy and transport policy.
Work Package 1 (WP1) provides leadership in ontologies – defining a common vocabulary for researchers who need to share information in their area of research. This work will also underpin the standardisation and interoperability needed to build a federated system of digital twins – a network linking multiple digital twins together. The lead Co-Investigator for this Work Package is Paul Harvey at University of Glasgow: paul.harvey@glasgow.ac.uk
Work Package 2 (WP2) is focused on human factors. This work explores how humans interact with and make decisions about transport, and studies both transport users and freight operators. This team is using technology including machine learning to mimic human behaviour in TransiT’s digital twins. The lead Co-Investigator for this Work Package is Guy Walker at Heriot-Watt University: g.h.walker@hw.ac.uk
Work Package 3 (WP3) is investigating cybersecurity and connectivity challenges. Its key goal is that data can be shared securely and reliably in a federated system of digital twins, a network of connected digital twins. The lead Co-Investigators for this Work Package are Dimitrios Pezaros and Ahmad Taha at University of Glasgow: dimitrios.pezaros@glasgow.ac.uk | Ahmad.Taha@glasgow.ac.uk
Work Package 4 (WP4) will define novel computational modelling and simulation techniques to design and create federated digital twins – digital twin networks – covering road, rail, air, and maritime transport, across both passenger and freight, to support low-cost and inclusive decarbonisation of the UK’s transport system. The lead Co-Investigator for this Work Package is Michele Sevegnani at University of Glasgow: michele.sevegnani@glasgow.ac.uk
Work Package 5 (WP5) is addressing the policy and regulatory aspects of digital twinning for transport policy and the future transport economy. Its role includes working with policy and regulatory stakeholders to develop a new regulatory framework that reflects the transition to new interconnected and digital systems. The lead Co-Investigators for this Work Package are Gregory Marsden and Kate Panbgourne at University of Leeds: tragrm@leeds.ac.uk | k.j.pangbourne@leeds.ac.uk
