Allan is a chartered engineer with more than 40 years’ international experience in the automotive, aerospace and defence industries.
His current roles include Chair of the Materials Innovation Leadership Group for the Henry Royce Institute, the UK’s National Institute for Advanced Materials Research and Innovation, and board member of New York-based private equity firm J. F. Lehman & Company.
Allan previously chaired WS Atkins, HS2 Ltd, Helios Towers plc and the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, and held senior executive roles at Cobham PLC, GEC-Marconi, BAE Systems and Hughes Aircraft.
He was awarded a CBE in 2008 for his contributions to engineering and manufacturing and holds honorary doctorates from both Cranfield University and the University of Warwick.
